The Projects

As a collection of six different projects, teams of students spent a semester producing self-generated communication ideas. From a business pitch led by an app, to podcasts, to a docu-fiction short film, to stories from the community. Each one standing alone, they are linked by the shared student collaborative experience.

About
Soul

Each year, Soul of Athens provides an opportunity for students from varying media disciplines to join together and create a collaborative project. It began in 2007 as a showcase that explored the characters and stories of Athens, Ohio, a small community in the foothills of Appalachia. Facilitated by The School of Visual Communication in the Scripps College of Communication at Ohio University, students have the opportunity to reinvent the process. In its essence, for one term the students create a concept, produce content, design presentations, and handle the management of their team.

This year the project shifted from a singular presentation to six teams working toward different goals of their own pitch and selection. An attempt to fuel the entrepreneurial thinking of students as they enter the new media landscape, each team began with an original concept and adapted as it grew over the Spring semester.

From photography to design, interactive to content creation, each team paved their way, working together to take an idea from concept to completion.
